Survivor Homicide: Then and Now

Abstract

Has there been a shift in the way the Justice system looks at individuals who take the life of their sexual abuser/sex trafficker. I have looked at major cases of those who committed survivor homicide to look at the sentences before 2020 and those that have happened after 2020. Before 2020 these individuals were only looked at as offenders and given harsh sentences. Since 2020, there has been a shift with all of the trauma Informed care and rise of influencers and celebrities getting involved in these cases and the sentences are shorter.The shift in thoughts about trauma has had a good impact on those after 2020 and has helped some of those sentenced before 2020 receive commutations and pardons.
