Despite the omnipresence of social media in our lives since the multiplication of platforms and the diversification of content in the early 2010s, traditional media (i.e., television, radio, printed newspapers) remain the main news providers. In the European Union, 71% of the population still relies on television as their primary source of information whilst also engaging with the radio and social media (37%) and online newspapers (42%; Parlement européen, 2023). The present study proposes a qualitative approach to investigate the attributes presented in violent crime reports from round-the-clock French traditional media (i.e., television and radio). Additionally, it is another objective of this project to explore the respective attribute coverage (i.e., live time) and the evolution of this coverage across several reports and days (i.e., initial and follow-up reports).
