Theoretical Foundations of Crime in Asia: A Content Analysis of Empirical Studies

Thu, Nov 13, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Congress - M4

Abstract

This study presents a preliminary analysis of criminological theories that have been tested in Asian contexts through a content review of published empirical research. While numerous studies have examined various theoretical frameworks, there has been little effort to systematically organize and synthesize these theory tests and applications. By analyzing articles from top-tier journals, this initial review identifies commonly tested theories, emerging trends, and gaps in theoretical application. The findings provide an early assessment of how criminological theories have been utilized in Asia, offering insights that will inform a more comprehensive synthesis and future empirical evaluations.
