The existing research on the relationship between illegal immigration and crime has not analyzed whether illegal immigration may increase the risk of victimization for Americans who are most vulnerable to labor market competition with immigrants, including native-born Black or other racial/ethnic minority residents with lower education and socioeconomic status. This study addresses that gap in knowledge with data from the area-identified U.S. National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) from 2017 to 2019. It also analyzes how the relationship between illegal immigration and crime is further moderated by different local immigration enforcement policies, including the 287(g) and anti-detainer policies.
