In this ongoing project, we study how intimate partner violence (IPV) affects Muslim communities in the US and Canada. Specifically, we ask: How and when do people in Muslim communities acknowledge relationship phenomena as IPV victimization ? When incidence of IPV occurs, how does this community negotiate the criminal legal system and other forms of help-seeking, both formal and alternative measures such as restorative justice approaches? We utilize a parallel convergent design where a semi-structured interview explored the phenomenological processes that informed the acknowledgment, help-seeking, and behaviors and attitudes rooted in restorative justice values of Muslim Americans and Muslim Canadians.
