What a Collection of Scars You Have: 30 Years of Hannibal Lecter and the Criminological Explanations of His Crimes

Wed, Nov 12, 11:00am to 12:20pm, Congress - M4

Abstract

For over a quarter century, the character of Hannibal Lecter appeared in various movies and a hit television show. Over that time, the popular explanation of criminal behavior has varied. This presentation will examine how Dr. Lecter and the various killers surrounding him have evolved over time to match the current popular trends in criminological theory. From Manhunter to Hannibal, from Buffalo Bill to The Tooth Fairy, and from biological theories to learning theories, these changes and connections will be examined.
