Effectively managing the reintegration of individuals convicted of violent extremism-related offenses is a pressing concern in the United States. This project aimed to serve as a resource for community supervision officers overseeing the transition of these individuals from incarceration to community supervision. Drawing on academic literature, expert surveys, interviews, and practitioner workshops, it provides guidance on risk assessment, case identification, and supervision strategies tailored to extremist clients. We outline key ideological frameworks, offers tools for recognizing extremist affiliations, and emphasizes intervention strategies that balance public safety with reintegration support. It also highlights available resources for returning individuals and underscores the crucial role of supervision officers in connecting clients to necessary services. Finally, we discuss formal and informal training opportunities to enhance officers’ capacity to manage this unique population effectively.
