The 2022 Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act directed that the “Secretary of Education, in consultation with the Attorney General … shall develop, design, and make available [an] online survey tool regarding postsecondary student experiences with domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and stalking.” In response, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), working with RTI International, is developing a survey instrument for the U.S. Department of Education to implement. It measures the prevalence of these crimes at postsecondary institutions, as well as the characteristics of these incidents and students’ attitudes on these subjects. This presentation will summarize previous campus climate survey research, discuss work completed during the project so far, and findings from different stages of the project.
