BJS’ Criminal Cases in State Courts Data Collection

Abstract

Criminal Cases in State Courts (CCSC) is a new data collection by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). BJS has collected nationally representative data on felony cases in state courts through its National Pretrial Reporting Program (NPRP) and the National Judicial Reporting Program (NJRP) since 1986, and its most recent collection is from 2006. CCSC will provide updated national estimates of felony and serious misdemeanor cases disposed in state criminal court in 2019. The study’s methodology, data collection efforts, and challenges will be discussed.
