A Developmental/Life-Course perspective has recently been extended to the correctional setting to identify and understand criminal careers while incarcerated. Findings have revealed that the correctional population is comprised of multiple subgroups of misconduct trajectories. While this research has shown the heterogeneity of misconduct, it is still an emerging body of work. Specifically, little attention has been directed to the understanding of misconduct seriousness and the factors associated with the escalation and de-escalation of behavior over time. Therefore, the current study seeks build on this knowledge by examining the trajectories of misconduct seriousness among a sample of adults in custody serving long term sentences, as well as factors that predict group membership.
