Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) is an evidence-based approach to behavioral health crisis response, yet its implementation varies widely, making it difficult to assess its impact. We, in collaboration with Michigan’s State CIT Office, are conducting this study to examine the landscape of CIT programs in Michigan to develop a standardized data collection system and evaluation framework. In the first year of this three-year project, CBHJ and CIT colleagues are conducting a statewide survey to assess CIT implementation. We explore the scope of CIT training and coordination, identifying trends, gaps, and variations in adherence to the Memphis Model. We also examine whether some programs classify themselves as CIT despite deviating from core principles. Our preliminary analyses are expected to reveal inconsistencies in CIT training, including variations in program structure, content, and data collection practices. We also expect to identify agencies that use alternative crisis response models under the CIT model. By mapping CIT programs across Michigan, our research will support the development of a standardized data collection system and evaluation framework, contributing to best practices for CIT implementation and assessment statewide.
