A modified delphi process, referred to as the RAND UCLA appropriateness statements, can be useful in transforming information from mixed method studies into practice guidelines. This paper will discuss the RAND process and appropriateness statements. It will provide guidance on the steps required to ensure that the practice guidelines integrate scientific findings with clinical guidance (or the experiences of those who do the work daily). Examples of the appropriateness statement processes will be given within the criminal justice context.
