This research examines perceptions, justifications, and motivations in ideologically motivated mass shooting manifestos. Specifically, it investigates how views on race and religion influence attacks carried out by individuals aligned with far-right and far-left ideologies. Drawing on social movement framing theory, the analysis focuses on diagnostic, prognostic, and motivational frames to uncover the underlying logic behind these acts of violence. Thematic coding is applied to six mass shooting manifestos to identify recurring themes and ideological patterns. The aim is to identify key differences in the motivations behind far-right extremist attacks compared to left-wing inspired attacks, with a particular focus on racial, religious rhetoric. Findings will contribute to understanding the psychological and ideological drivers of hate-based violence.
