What Works in Community Supervision: Evidence-Based Strategies

Abstract

To study evidence adoption among probation and parole agencies, we collaborated with the American Probation and Parole Association to identify evidence-based practices related to community supervision. The training and coaching package represents a novel approach to addressing some forms of violence and harm, but also one with sufficient evidence for its effectiveness. In this presentation, we discuss how we identified an approach that most agencies would welcome and for which there is evidence supporting its efficacy. We also highlight the underlying theory of why this approach should reduce violence and harm, and how we will educate and coach agencies on the use of this approach, including opportunities to sign up for free training.
