Inmate Partner Violence: A Comparative Examination of Two Institutions Based on Demographic Characteristics

Wed, Nov 12, 8:00 to 9:20am, Marquis Salon 10 - M2

Abstract

Intimate partner violence (IPV) remains a critical issue in victimization studies, with extensive research exploring the factors contributing to IPV and the barriers that prevent victims from reporting their experiences to legal authorities, family members, or others in their social circles. However, there is limited research examining IPV reporting behaviors from a comparative perspective across different institutional settings. This study seeks to address this gap by analyzing variations in IPV disclosure rates among students from two distinct educational institutions with significantly different geographical and demographic contexts. By focusing on demographic factors, this study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the characteristics of IPV victims that influence their willingness to report IPV. The findings will offer valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and support organizations to develop targeted interventions that encourage reporting and enhance victim support systems. Policy implications will be discussed in detail at the conclusion of the study.
