Correlates of Police Administrative Officers’ Intention to be Reassigned in Taiwan

Wed, Nov 12, 3:30 to 4:50pm, Marquis Salon 14 - M2

Abstract

Administrative officers play an important role in Taiwan's police organization. They are supervisors of frontline patrol officers and provide assistance to the upper management in a police department. More specifically, their jobs include recruitment of new officers, establishment of employee annual evaluation, implementation of scheduled strategic plans and assistance to the Chief of Police with news media. However, administrative officers often receive lower salaries and benefits since they do not get extra pay for street assignments. This study examines the factors associated with administrative officers’ intentions to request a transfer to other positions within the police department. Using survey data from 480 administrative officers across major and medium-sized police agencies in Taiwan, we employ Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze key predictors of reassignment intentions. Understanding these factors is essential for developing retention strategies and improving overall workforce stability in Taiwan’s police agencies.
