Gendered violence in areas of land conflicts in Brazil is influenced by a range of intersecting factors, including territorial disputes, socio-economic inequalities, and citizens’ limited state protection. Women, particularly those from marginalised groups, face increased risks of violence, restricted mobility and barriers to justice. Using a recently updated homicide dataset from the Comissão Pastoral da Terra (CPT), we analyse the spatiotemporal patterns of gendered violence in areas of land conflicts from 1985 to June 2024, focusing on the experiences of women who actively advocate for land access. We shed light on how historically social and political forces exacerbate inequalities and call for policies addressing gender and land rights in areas of conflict worldwide.
