1) Objective: Hate crimes create ripple effects that extend beyond individual victims, disrupting communities and reinforcing societal inequalities. Given the recent surge in anti-Asian hate crimes, this study aims to review the consequences of victimization on Asian people and assess the ripple effects to a broader community.
2) Data/Methods: We systematically searched peer-reviewed studies on the consequences of hate crimes published between 2000 and 2024. A total of 30 studies were selected, and a subset of the studies that addressed crimes toward Asians were included in this scoping review.
3) Finding: This study confirms that hate crimes create widespread ripple effects, instilling fear, behavioral changes, and social isolation within both directly affected communities and similarly identified groups. The psychological, relational, and behavioral consequences extend beyond individual victims.
4) Implications: The implications will be discussed.
