It is now known that neighborhood context shapes reentry experiences among returning citizens, especially the likelihood of recidivism. Although developing, the literature remains somewhat underdeveloped and much remains unknown. In this analysis, we extend prior research by asking whether the relationship between neighborhood context and recidivism is conditioned by the security-level of the correctional institution of release. The working hypothesis is that being released into disadvantaged contexts is more problematic for individuals released from close (i.e., maximum) security facilities relative to minimum/medium. This issue is addressed with event history analysis of recidivism among individuals under parole/post release control after release from Ohio (ODRC) state prisons during 2021-2022. The implications for theory and reentry programs are discussed.
