Many adolescent menstruators lack the knowledge and resources to manage their periods safely, leading to biological and psychosocial strain that can persist into adulthood. Those most affected by period poverty often share demographics with system-involved youth, yet this overlap remains largely unexplored. Using a phenomenological framework, this study examines detained youth's menstrual health needs and experiences through semi-structured interviews. Findings reveal limited menstrual knowledge and significant distress in managing periods while detained. This study highlights the need for targeted health interventions and gender-responsive practices in juvenile detention to improve the physical and mental well-being of incarcerated adolescent menstruators.
