Correctional staff face significant workplace stress, which can lead to burnout and impact both staff well-being and institutional operations. This presentation explores differences in workplace stress and burnout among prison staff, comparing male and female facilities, security and non-security personnel, and male and female staff. With funding from the National Institute of Justice, the CNA Corporation (CNA) collected survey data from five Minnesota Department of Corrections facilities. Results highlight key stressors, variations in burnout levels, and how different staff groups experience the demands of working in correctional settings. Findings provide insight into targeted interventions to improve staff wellness, reduce burnout, and enhance overall workplace conditions in prisons.
