The case study component of the PSN evaluation provides in-depth assessment of local PSN implementation in 10 carefully selected federal districts, along with examination of changes in violent crime in each target area. This presentation describes the importance of having a case study component in a large national evaluation. It highlights the similarities and differences among case study sites and how they changed over time, including during and following the COVID-19 pandemic. It describes the use of the synthetic control method to compare trends in violent crime rates for PSN case study sites compared to non-intervention jurisdictions and the strengths and weaknesses of that approach.
