Most studies on the effectiveness of Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training have been based on data from police departments in metropolitan settings. The current study expands upon the existing literature by studying the impact of CIT training from the perspectives of CIT trainers, police department leadership, and police officers who received CIT training in a large suburban police department in Northern Virginia. Policy and practice implications of the study findings are discussed.
