The goal of this study is to establish whether, for whom, and under what conditions, health status undermines enrollment and successful completion of in-prison programs. It does so using nationally representative survey data on incarcerated people in the United States to examine the relationship between chronic health conditions and experiences with educational and vocational programming in prisons. The results highlight the potential limits to achieving correctional goals in U.S. prisons without addressing the health-related needs of incarcerated populations.
