Implementation science, the study of how to best implement a program, has had limited use in the policing sphere. The current study examines the implementation and sustainment of law enforcement deflection programs in both rural and urban areas through an implementation science approach. An evaluation of barriers and enablers of law enforcement deflection programs was conducted during site visits. Data were taken from interviews conducted with law enforcement officers and administration across the study sites. It is anticipated that common barriers will include transportation and lack of officer buy-in, while enablers will include ample community resources and administration buy-in. Identification of barriers and enablers is crucial to sustain deflection programs and inform best practices for the implementation of such programs.
