Centering Marginalized Voices – The 2025 ASC Service Project in Washington, DC

Abstract

The ASC 2025 conference will include a large-scale service project in Washington, DC, aimed at supporting marginalized populations disproportionately impacted by poverty, homelessness, and criminalization. This year’s initiative will partner with a local nonprofit organization that provides direct services and advocacy. A representative from the organization will join the panel to discuss their mission, the needs of the population they serve, and the challenges they face in the nation’s capital. The presentation will highlight the importance of centering community voices in academic service projects, emphasizing how collaboration with local organizations ensures that outreach efforts are meaningful and responsive. The discussion will also outline the logistics of the service project, including donation drives, volunteer opportunities, and the distribution of essential resources to those in need.
