Recently, trauma-informed care and trauma-informed service systems have received more attention in the criminological and policing literature. A trauma-informed approach to policing can help minimize trauma-related behaviours and symptoms that can be difficult for police officers to manage safely and effectively (Barberi & Taxman, 2019). Although there has been a recent push across many service systems to develop trauma-informed approaches, this is much less evident in the policing literature. Similarly, the literature offers relative consensus around the core domains of a trauma-informed legal system but much less agreement on how this translates to policing specifically. This study seeks to thoroughly examine what is currently being discussed in the trauma-informed policing literature by means of a scoping review.
