Abstract
This study describes the theory, methods, and transformative learning results among three principles programs delivered to a variety of vulnerable groups in the US and UK (i.e., at-risk adolescents, imprisoned adults, and an out of work population). Such groups are known to share high rates of trauma, mental illness, and a significant lack of access to resources that increase the need for sustainable effective programming. Three principles interventions are based on the transpersonal teachings of Sydney Banks and focus on participants innate health—capacity for psychological well-being that persists regardless of circumstances. Emerging data shows programs focused on innate health can foster genuine transformation, including increased emotional regulation, improved relationships, and an enhanced sense of self efficacy. The bulk of this review will focus on the transformative potential of the human psych for mental health education among vulnerable adults with descriptions of innate health understanding and sudden insightful change as a pathway for empowerment, desistance, and psychological freedom.
