In the Indian context, literature on understanding the process involved in trafficking of human beings is limited. Therefore, an empirical study was conducted to examine the complex process of human trafficking as reported by 76 victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE). Using an interview schedule, In-depth interviews were conducted among inmates placed in the Government Vigilance/Protective Homes in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The data collected were coded and processed using SPSS. The findings revealed that 61.2% of the traffickers were known to victims. Nine respondents were trafficked from Bangladesh through deception. Almost 50% of the victims were lured with better earnings. The findings have established that illiteracy and poverty as key factors for women and girls to become victims of CSE.
