Community attitudes towards local conservation efforts have a significant impact on the ability of authorities to effectively, efficiently, and ethically manage and monitor protected and conserved areas (PCAs). Based on interviews, the present study examines attitudes and experiences of community members who live within and outside of PCAs in the Philippines to understand community-authority interactions and perceived community responsibilities. We also assess how such perceptions are influenced by age and gender. Through this, we identify avenues to bolster compliance with local conservation laws and regulations and opportunities for guardianship.
