During the past five years, Chile has witnessed a progressive increase in crime and violence, which is evident both in the increase in homicides, as in the lethal nature of crimes. In fact, homicide rates went from 4.7 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in 2018 to 6.7 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2022. In addition, there has been an increase in the use of firearms as a mechanism to perpetuate crimes, homicides committed with firearms went from 38.2% of in 2019 to a 53.9% in 2022. In this context, the government of Chile has devoted significant resources to transport and adapt evidence-based practices (EBP) violence reduction strategies developed in the Global North, to the local context. This presentation analyzes the process of transportability, adaptability and implementation of Cure Violence (CV) to the Chilean context while ensuring its fidelity to the model, including challenges and opportunities that it entails and provides recommendations for future adaptations of the CV model in Latin American countries.
