Updated Findings from a Human Trafficking Screening Tool in a Local Detention Center

Fri, Nov 14, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Cherry Blossom - Second Floor

Abstract

Human trafficking victims have a high likelihood of being arrested during their time being trafficked. However, the majority of the charges are due to the actions caused by their trafficker. Unfortunately, trafficking victims are rarely recognized as victims, thus leaving them with a criminal record. The resulting criminal record follow survivors out of trafficking and become barriers to achieving independence and success. Therefore, the Tri-County Human Trafficking Task Force implemented a human trafficking screening tool in a local detention center in April 2021. Updated findings and policy implications will be discussed.
