Abstract

Rural criminology is the study of crime and criminal justice as they are expressed within the context of places with smaller populations and/or population densities, with the caveat that they are not next to (i.e., contiguous) to larger population centers. Green criminology is the study of destructive human behaviors with specific reference to illegal behaviors and other behaviors that create harms against both the natural and build environments by individuals, corporations, and governments. A significant share, but not all, environmental crimes and harms occur in rural places and affect rural peoples. The purpose of this paper is to examine where these two subfields of criminology intersection, sharing common interests and expressing divergent views.
