The victim notification process - when victim-survivors are notified of sexual assault kit (SAK) test results - is a pivotal step for sexual assault kit initiative (SAKI) projects. However, while research on SAKI projects have grown in recent years, few studies have focused on law enforcement decision-making regarding which victims are notified and the victim notification process. Using data from the Minnesota SAKI project in Anoka County, MN, we examine the predictors of victim notifications (i.e., who is notified), the victim notification process, and the outcomes of victim notifications. Results will be discussed in the context of building best practices for victim notification protocols and adequate preparation by law enforcement and victim advocates to address needs for the notification process and set expectations regarding victim reengagement.
