An Analysis of Acquittals in Murder Cases

Thu, Nov 13, 5:00 to 6:20pm, Marquis Salon 3 - M2

Abstract

Each year a notable number of defendants were found not guilty at trial. It is crucial to examine the reasons behind these acquittals to improve judicial efficiency and fairness. However, empirical research in this area has been limited. Using a sample of acquittals in murder cases in the United States, the current study analyzes the underlying factors that contribute to acquittals.
