On college campuses, marginalized communities - including people of
color, immigrants and refugees, and LGBTQ victims, people with
disabilities and Deaf people are more likely to experience intimate partner
violence (IPV). Additionally, unfavorable attitudes towards institutions
have contributed to a rise in the underreporting of abuse within these
communities. There is very limited information on intimate partner
violence experiences and the impacts of institutional betrayal among
survivors on their help-seeking behavior. This study seeks to fill this critical
knowledge gap via surveys and interviews with college-aged
undergraduate students on the George Mason University (GMU) campus
about their intimate partner violence experiences and their help-seeking
behavior.
