Constructing a Structural Racism Index

Wed, Nov 12, 8:00 to 9:20am, Marquis Salon 8 - M2

Abstract

If we want to understand structural racism, we will need to devise a means of measuring it. This measure must be theoretically driven to be consistent and multidimensional to be complete. To that end, using a variety of data sources to build and test smaller, but still multidimensional, measures is the best course of action. I outline some promising avenues towards index construction across dimensions and the importance of putting theory into action to accurately measure and reduce structural racism's impact in American life.
