Firearm Inquiry Statistics Program

Fri, Nov 14, 3:30 to 4:50pm, Marquis Salon 8 - M2

Abstract

For more than 20 years, BJS’s Firearm Inquiry Statistics (FIST) program has collected information on firearm applications and denials and combines this information with the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) transaction data to produce an estimated number of background checks for firearm transfers or permits since the effective date of the Brady Act in 1994. This annual data collection is ongoing and is currently collecting data for calendar year 2024.
