Legalized gambling, tourism, and crime have long been thought to be interconnected. This study seeks to determine if there is an association between these three variables in a major city in the United States. Using a sample of property crimes reported to the local police department where individuals were named as the victims, this study assessed for associations between residency status and location of victimization, as well as type of victimization, and the association between location of victimization and type of victimization. Chi square analyses were employed to test for these associations. All analyses were found to be significant, suggesting that residency status is related to both location and type of victimization, and location and type of victimization are related to each other. Grand larceny, larceny of a person, and burglary of a motor vehicle all produced higher than expected results for both non-residents and for the commercial commands.
