This poster reports preliminary results from a qualitative study of criminal case delays in an urban southern county. The study employs qualitative interviews with trial judges and private and public defenders to explore the causes, consequences, and potential solutions for case delays and related issues with caseflow management. The interviews also explore the impact of COVID-19’s unprecedented disruptions, the influence of the 2020 civic unrest following the murder of George Floyd, and new state supreme court directives related to docketing.
