Media, Mental Health, and Crime: The Case of Nicholas Godejohn and The Murder of Dee Dee Blanchard

Abstract

The 2015 murder of Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard made national headlines due to the gruesome circumstances surrounding the case. Though much of the media spotlight has been focused on Gypsy-Rose Blanchard—recently paroled—less attention has been given to her former boyfriend and co-defendant, Nicholas Godejohn. This roundtable presentation will provide an insight into Godejohn's life, his relationship with Gypsy-Rose, and the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard. In addition to discussing his trial, sentencing, and most recent appeal, this roundtable will also explore the media’s coverage of this high-profile case.
