In the aftermath of major corporate scandals, whistleblowers, regulators, and the media consistently point to "defective culture" within organizations as the catalyst for systemic, widespread wrongdoing. This understanding of how organizational culture can negatively influence behavior is illustrated by infamous cases such as Enron's collapse due to accounting fraud, Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal, and Purdue Pharma's unauthorized marketing contributing to the opioid crisis. But what do we really know about the relationship between organizational culture and corporate crime?
This poster explores some of the theoretical foundations, empirical findings, and key challenges in understanding this relationship, while also highlighting promising future directions for research and policy.
