Punitive views and social class: Subjective SES position, perceived economic precarity, and punishment

Thu, Nov 13, 5:00 to 6:20pm, Farragut North - M3

Abstract

Prior research has established that animus toward the poor is a notably powerful and consistent predictor of punitive views. This roundtable discussion will consider broader ways in which punitive views and subjective socioeconomic status are linked, with an emphasis on the role of precarity in shaping the dynamics of punitive views and social class.
