This study examines the perceptions of crime rates and levels of safety among college students in relation to group demographics such as age, gender, race, nationality, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status. This study seeks to find a correlation between group demographics of college students and their perceived levels of crime rates and levels of safety. This study consists of a self-report survey given to participants that are currently enrolled in college at USFSP. This study relates specifically to college students and their perceptions of both crime rates and their levels of safety. Similar studies focus on only one aspect either regarding perceptions of crime rates or levels of safety meaning that this study is encompassing of all aspects. This study is still being conducted but preliminary questioning demonstrates a correlation between demographics such as females, ages 18-25, and lower socioeconomic status with higher perceived crime rates and lower feelings of levels of safety.
