Teaching Sociology in the South: Finding Common Ground in Divided Times

Abstract

Drawing from over 15 years of teaching in the South I will explore the ways I have created classrooms that are trauma-informed, and JEDI centered. I will discuss the Clothesline project and the Postcard projects (co-author of book chapter here too, Dr. Durfee) as trauma-informed pedagogical approaches to project-based learning. The ways collaboration can strengthen initiatives and how to keep going when administration seems less than supportive. I will discuss the JEDI approach in the classrooms both in online spaces and in-person.
