Poster #126 - Impact of Guest Speakers on Student Learning

Thu, Nov 13, 6:30 to 7:20pm, Marquis Salon 5 - M2

Abstract

Guest speakers are often utilized in courses to bring life to the material that is being taught. The purpose of this research is to understand the impact of guest speakers on student learning. The project focuses on three semesters of a Women and Crime class where multiple female guest speakers in criminal justice careers spoke about their experiences in the field. In each semester the modalities of the courses varied, with students attending in person, via Zoom, or asynchronously online. Students were asked about their perceptions of the guest speakers on the course content and their overall learning. They were also asked about the modality of the course and how it may have impacted their experiences with the guest speakers. The poster will present data from the survey and some initial analysis as this is an ongoing project.
