Cybercrime poses a complex and fast-evolving challenge for criminal justice systems around the world. In response, the Korean Institute of Criminology and Justice (KICJ) has been conducting comprehensive research to support the development of cybercrime statistics and evidence-based policymaking. This presentation will provide an overview of KICJ’s multidisciplinary work on cybercrime, examining the definitions, categories, and methodologies currently employed in Korea, shedding light on how these align with or diverge from emerging international standards. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of foundational research for establishing unified statistical frameworks and the critical role of collaboration with key institutions, such as law enforcement and judicial bodies, in producing reliable and actionable data.
