In partnership with the Denver Adult Probation Department, we began a four-year study funded by Arnold Ventures in June 2022 to examine predictors of probation outcomes with a two-year cohort of individuals sentenced to probation. This poster presents findings from the Year One cohort of probation clients (July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, approximately 1,000 clients) regarding treatment during probation and probation outcomes. Using case file data on each client, our data allows us to track, across each month of a client’s probation term, whether the client was referred to treatment, which months the client was in treatment, and the client’s level of engagement with treatment (e.g., attending regularly, not attending). Descriptive findings related to client treatment, such as the timing of starting treatment and treatment attendance, are presented. In addition, predictive analyses estimating the influence of treatment on a myriad of supervision outcomes, including successful completion, absconding, and revocation, are presented. These findings provide important information regarding access to coordinated treatment services as a core component of probation supervision strategies. Implications for policy, resource allocation, and case management practices are discussed to inform future efforts in improving probation success rates.
