Prior literature has highlighted the role conflict school security personnel (SSP) might face while on the job. While officers are trained to enforce the law, as SSP, they are also often encouraged to educate and mentor students. However, it is unclear how these roles are addressed in state-level policies. The current study attempts to fill this gap by examining state policies as they relate to SSP type and role expectations as well as training requirements. Special focus is given to state policies that address specialized training specific to SSP who work within K-12 schools.
