Poster #98 - Exploring the Cognitive and Emotional Correlates of Antisocial Behaviors

Thu, Nov 13, 7:30 to 8:30pm, Marquis Salon 5 - M2

Abstract

Antisocial behavior involves actions that violate social norms or the rights of others. Cognitive deficits and emotion dysregulation have each been independently linked to increased risk for antisocial outcomes. Prior literature shows cognitive impairments predict delinquency, criminal behaviors, and recidivism, while difficulties regulating emotion may act as proximal predictors of antisocial conduct. However, the interplay between cognitive deficits and emotion dysregulation in predicting antisocial behavior remains unclear. This study investigates whether the relationship between cognitive deficits and antisocial behavior is mediated or moderated by emotion dysregulation. Clarifying these relationships can identify crucial pathways underlying antisocial behaviors and guide targeted interventions addressing cognitive and emotional factors contributing to antisocial and criminal behaviors.
